folds is a sculptural series about skin and about the autonomy of material. Using my torso as a template, I used rolled sheets of terracotta and white stoneware to represent my skin. Divorced from the template of my body, I thought about what my skin would do next, and from that came folds. The project shifted from being a bodily exploration to a material exploration- stretched, folded, rolled over as cloth, the ceramic body was pushed to its limits.
